Panamera Turbo vs G6: chronicle of a drag race at 293 km/h

The launch: 0 to 100 km/h

Off the line, the G6 hits 100 km/h in 3.80 s versus 4.16 s for the Panamera Turbo. The instant torque of 660 Nm from the electric motor makes the difference. At this point, the G6 leads by 0.36 s and sits roughly 5 m ahead.

From 100 km/h to 400 metres

At 200 metres, the G6 is doing 152 km/h against 153 km/h for the Panamera Turbo. The gap is 0.23 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.

At 400 metres standing start, the G6 crosses the line in 12.03 s versus 12.21 s. The 0.18 s gap represents roughly 10 m of track — barely a car length.

Beyond 400 metres: top speed comes into play

Past 400 metres, the situation changes. The G6 maxes out at 200 km/h while the Panamera Turbo keeps accelerating towards 293 km/h. At 600 metres, the gap has dropped to 0.09 s.

Around 671 metres, both vehicles are level. This is the inversion point: the Panamera Turbo overcomes its launch deficit thanks to a 93 km/h higher top speed.

At 1,000 metres, the Panamera Turbo finishes in 22.11 s versus 22.89 s. The 0.78 s delta in favour of the Panamera Turbo shows that top speed makes a clear difference.

What the numbers don’t tell you

On paper, the Panamera Turbo combines 550 hp, 770 Nm and 1,970 kg — a clear theoretical edge over the G6. Yet the G6 launches quicker. At standstill, both motors deliver peak torque from 0 rpm: the decisive factor is no longer raw power, but available grip. If the G6 has a better traction coefficient (tyres, weight distribution, traction control calibration), it puts down more force despite inferior specs — exactly what the simulation reflects, calibrated on manufacturer 0-100 km/h times.

Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the Panamera Turbo is capped at 303 km/h, the G6 at 200 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit — it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.

Instant electric torque gives an advantage off the line. The higher top speed of the combustion engine gives an advantage over longer distances. The distance at which one catches the other depends on the top speed differential.

In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 6.08 seconds. The 0.36 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.

Xpeng G6 is slightly faster than the Porsche Panamera Turbo to 100 km/h. The edge holds on standing starts but may narrow at higher speeds depending on aerodynamic load.
