Off the line, the X4 M40d hits 100 km/h in 4.94 s versus 11.48 s for the 216i Gran Tourer. At this point, the X4 M40d leads by 6.54 s and sits roughly 31 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the X4 M40d is doing 137 km/h against 101 km/h for the 216i Gran Tourer. The gap is 3.01 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the X4 M40d crosses the line in 13.29 s versus 18.00 s. The 4.72 s gap represents roughly 152 m of track - a gap visible to the naked eye.
Past 400 metres, the X4 M40d continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 190 km/h versus 138 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the X4 M40d finishes in 24.38 s versus 33.21 s, with a 8.82 s lead.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the X4 M40d is capped at 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h, the 216i Gran Tourer at 188 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (5.81 kg/hp vs 13.07 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Manual).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 20.07 seconds. The 6.54 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Over 0–100 km/h, X4 M40d G02 wins (4,94 s vs 11,48 s).
X4 M40d G02 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,94 seconds (calibrated simulation).
