Off the line, the X4 xDrive30d hits 100 km/h in 5.86 s versus 6.35 s for the X3 xDrive30i. At this point, the X4 xDrive30d leads by 0.49 s and sits roughly 6 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the X4 xDrive30d is doing 129 km/h against 126 km/h for the X3 xDrive30i. The gap is 0.31 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the X4 xDrive30d crosses the line in 14.18 s versus 14.56 s. The 0.38 s gap represents roughly 17 m of track - two to three car lengths.
Past 400 metres, the X4 xDrive30d continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 177 km/h versus 175 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the X4 xDrive30d finishes in 26.04 s versus 26.56 s, with a 0.51 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (240 vs 240 km/h), preventing any comeback.
Both rivals share the same electronic speed cap: the X4 xDrive30d and the X3 xDrive30i are governed to 240 km/h. At that speed, standard-fit tyres approach their safety threshold - an industrial ceiling common to most electric vehicles in this segment. Neither car shows its true aerodynamic potential in this duel.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (6.87 kg/hp vs 6.81 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 10.01 seconds. The 0.49 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Swap one of the two models to explore an equivalent duel in the same segment.
