Off the line, the 220d Gran Tourer hits 100 km/h in 8.14 s versus 8.68 s for the 218d Gran Coupe. Despite the faster sprint time, the 218d Gran Coupe is 4 m further along the track at this moment: stronger low-speed acceleration offsets a slower run beyond 100 km/h.
At 200 metres, the 218d Gran Coupe is doing 112 km/h against 118 km/h for the 220d Gran Tourer. The gap is 0.01 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the 220d Gran Tourer crosses the line in 16.10 s versus 16.40 s. The 0.30 s gap represents roughly 11 m of track - two to three car lengths.
Past 400 metres, the 220d Gran Tourer continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 164 km/h versus 155 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the 220d Gran Tourer finishes in 28.97 s versus 29.93 s, with a 0.96 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (220 vs 222 km/h), preventing any comeback.
Both rivals share the same electronic speed cap: the 220d Gran Tourer and the 218d Gran Coupe are governed to 220 km/h. At that speed, standard-fit tyres approach their safety threshold - an industrial ceiling common to most electric vehicles in this segment. Neither car shows its true aerodynamic potential in this duel.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (8.18 kg/hp vs 9.50 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 14.34 seconds. The 0.54 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Over 0–100 km/h, 220d Gran Tourer F22 wins (8,14 s vs 8,68 s).
220d Gran Tourer F22 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 8,14 seconds (calibrated simulation).
220d Gran Tourer F22: 190 hp, ratio 8,18 kg/hp. 218d Gran Coupe F44: 150 hp, ratio 9,50 kg/hp.
220d Gran Tourer F22: 220 km/h. 218d Gran Coupe F44: 222 km/h.
