Off the line, the 320i hits 100 km/h in 7.05 s versus 7.66 s for the 220d xDrive Gran Tourer. At this point, the 320i leads by 0.61 s and sits roughly 5 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the 320i is doing 119 km/h against 116 km/h for the 220d xDrive Gran Tourer. The gap is 0.26 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the 320i crosses the line in 15.11 s versus 15.55 s. The 0.44 s gap represents roughly 17 m of track - two to three car lengths.
Past 400 metres, the 320i continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 166 km/h versus 159 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the 320i finishes in 27.81 s versus 28.74 s, with a 0.94 s lead.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the 220d xDrive Gran Tourer is capped at 218 km/h, the 320i at 235 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (8.53 kg/hp vs 7.93 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 12.67 seconds. The 0.61 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Over 0–100 km/h, 320i G20 wins (7,05 s vs 7,66 s).
