Off the line, the M440i hits 100 km/h in 4.83 s versus 6.56 s for the Cooper S FWD. At this point, the M440i leads by 1.73 s and sits roughly 18 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the M440i is doing 146 km/h against 132 km/h for the Cooper S FWD. The gap is 1.22 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the M440i crosses the line in 12.93 s versus 14.62 s. The 1.69 s gap represents roughly 75 m of track - a gap visible to the naked eye.
Past 400 metres, the M440i continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 205 km/h versus 184 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the M440i finishes in 23.15 s versus 26.02 s, with a 2.88 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) vs 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h), preventing any comeback.
The M440i features all-wheel drive (AWD) against the Cooper S FWD’s FWD. At low speeds (0-30, 0-50, 0-80 km/h), AWD doubles the driven contact area: all four wheels transmit torque to the road, virtually eliminating wheelspin at launch. This traction advantage is decisive in the range where the motor delivers peak torque, before power and aerodynamics take over.
Electronically capped at 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h, the M440i never reaches its natural aerodynamic ceiling in this duel. That’s not a physical limit of the motor - it’s a deliberate manufacturer decision, typically tied to standard-fit tyre ratings or model-range positioning.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (4.53 kg/hp vs 5.86 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 9.51 seconds. The 1.73 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Over 0–100 km/h, M440i G22 wins (4,83 s vs 6,56 s).
M440i G22 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,83 seconds (calibrated simulation).
