G6 vs Cayenne GTS: chronicle of a drag race at 261 km/h

The launch: 0 to 100 km/h

Off the line, the G6 hits 100 km/h in 3.80 s versus 5.56 s for the Cayenne GTS. The instant torque of 660 Nm from the electric motor makes the difference. At this point, the G6 leads by 1.76 s and sits roughly 15 m ahead.

From 100 km/h to 400 metres

At 200 metres, the G6 is doing 152 km/h against 137 km/h for the Cayenne GTS. The gap is 1.23 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.

At 400 metres standing start, the G6 crosses the line in 12.03 s versus 13.70 s. The 1.67 s gap represents roughly 77 m of track — a gap visible to the naked eye.

Beyond 400 metres: top speed comes into play

Past 400 metres, the G6 continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 200 km/h versus 191 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the G6 finishes in 22.89 s versus 24.70 s, with a 1.81 s lead. Despite a higher top speed (261 km/h), the Cayenne GTS never recovers its launch deficit.

What the numbers don’t tell you

Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the G6 is capped at 200 km/h, the Cayenne GTS at 261 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit — it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.

Instant electric torque gives an advantage off the line. The higher top speed of the combustion engine gives an advantage over longer distances. The distance at which one catches the other depends on the top speed differential.

In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 8.33 seconds. The 1.76 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.

Xpeng G6 has a clear edge over the Porsche Cayenne GTS to 100 km/h. This difference is clearly noticeable in spirited driving and widens on standing starts.
