The automotive landscape in 2026
ICE, hybrid, electric: a catalogue in transition
In 2026, all major manufacturers simultaneously offer ICE, mild-hybrid (MHEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric (BEV) models across their ranges. This technological coexistence is at the heart of the Caralogy database: each vehicle is tagged by powertrain type, enabling like-for-like comparisons (electric SUV vs combustion SUV) or cross-technology duels.
Premium vs generalist brands: opposing philosophies
BMW, Porsche and Mercedes-AMG optimise their engines for driving pleasure — dual-clutch transmissions, active differentials and gearbox calibrations are central to their strategies. In contrast, generalist brands like Renault or Citroën prioritise comfort, fuel economy and value for money. Our simulation engine models these strategies differently: shift times, DWR, grip Cx — each brand has its own calibration parameters.
How we reference vehicles
Each vehicle goes through our Bronze → Silver → Gold pipeline. Bronze extracts data from official technical datasheets (manufacturer PDFs, homologations). Silver normalises and validates physical parameters (power, torque, mass, gear ratios, SCx). Gold publishes validated data to the PostgreSQL database and triggers the simulation. A vehicle only appears in the catalogue once its critical data passes the simulation Gatekeeper.
Sources and methodology
Database: official technical datasheets, UTAC/WLTP homologations, manufacturer documents. Three-stage pipeline (Bronze, Silver, Gold) with Gatekeeper validation (power hp, torque Nm, mass kg, gear ratios, SCx required). Brand DQM calibration — target pass rate: 80% on homologated data. Continuously updated; some older models may lack complete simulation data.
