Off the line, the 225i xDrive Active Tourer hits 100 km/h in 6.63 s versus 7.27 s for the 220i. Despite the faster sprint time, the 220i is 5 m further along the track at this moment: stronger low-speed acceleration offsets a slower run beyond 100 km/h.
At 200 metres, the 225i xDrive Active Tourer is doing 126 km/h against 118 km/h for the 220i. The gap is 0.03 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the 225i xDrive Active Tourer crosses the line in 14.83 s versus 15.25 s. The 0.42 s gap represents roughly 17 m of track - two to three car lengths.
Past 400 metres, the 225i xDrive Active Tourer continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 174 km/h versus 162 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the 225i xDrive Active Tourer finishes in 26.93 s versus 28.20 s, with a 1.28 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (234 vs 225 km/h), preventing any comeback.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the 225i xDrive Active Tourer is capped at 235 km/h, the 220i at 229 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (6.58 kg/hp vs 7.95 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 12.15 seconds. The 0.64 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Over 0–100 km/h, 225i xDrive Active Tourer F44 wins (6,63 s vs 7,27 s).
225i xDrive Active Tourer F44 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6,63 seconds (calibrated simulation).
225i xDrive Active Tourer F44: 231 hp, ratio 6,58 kg/hp. 220i F44: 178 hp, ratio 7,95 kg/hp.
225i xDrive Active Tourer F44: 234 km/h. 220i F44: 225 km/h.
