Off the line, the M440i Gran Coupé hits 100 km/h in 4.94 s versus 7.41 s for the 220d Gran Coupe. At this point, the M440i Gran Coupé leads by 2.47 s and sits roughly 21 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the M440i Gran Coupé is doing 144 km/h against 122 km/h for the 220d Gran Coupe. The gap is 1.60 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the M440i Gran Coupé crosses the line in 13.05 s versus 15.43 s. The 2.38 s gap represents roughly 97 m of track - a gap visible to the naked eye.
Past 400 metres, the M440i Gran Coupé continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 202 km/h versus 171 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the M440i Gran Coupé finishes in 23.48 s versus 27.72 s, with a 4.24 s lead.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the M440i Gran Coupé is capped at 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h, the 220d Gran Coupe at 235 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (4.72 kg/hp vs 7.92 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 11.39 seconds. The 2.47 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Over 0–100 km/h, M440i Gran Coupé G22 wins (4,94 s vs 7,41 s).
M440i Gran Coupé G22 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,94 seconds (calibrated simulation).
