Off the line, the X1 sDrive20d hits 100 km/h in 7.80 s versus 7.97 s for the X4 xDrive20d. Despite the faster sprint time, the X4 xDrive20d is 12 m further along the track at this moment: stronger low-speed acceleration offsets a slower run beyond 100 km/h.
At 200 metres, the X4 xDrive20d is doing 113 km/h against 119 km/h for the X1 sDrive20d. The gap is 0.30 s. The gap widens compared to the 0-100.
At 400 metres standing start, the X1 sDrive20d crosses the line in 15.77 s versus 15.80 s. The 0.03 s gap represents roughly 1 m of track
Past 400 metres, the X1 sDrive20d continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 166 km/h versus 156 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the X1 sDrive20d finishes in 28.46 s versus 29.28 s, with a 0.82 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (222 vs 213 km/h), preventing any comeback.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the X1 sDrive20d is capped at 222 km/h, the X4 xDrive20d at 213 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (8.11 kg/hp vs 9.74 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 13.55 seconds. The 0.17 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
