Off the line, the Panamera hits 100 km/h in 5.83 s versus 5.96 s for the 730d. At this point, the Panamera leads by 0.13 s and sits roughly 4 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the Panamera is doing 130 km/h against 132 km/h for the 730d. The gap is 0.09 s. The gap remains stable from the start.
At 400 metres standing start, the Panamera crosses the line in 14.14 s versus 14.18 s. The 0.04 s gap represents roughly 2 m of track
Past 400 metres, the situation changes. Past 400 metres, both rivals hit the same electronic ceiling at 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h. Neither can claw back ground through top speed - the outcome hinges on the acceleration curve between 100 and 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h.
At 1,000 metres, the 730d finishes in 25.53 s versus 25.74 s. The 0.21 s delta shows an extremely tight race.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the Panamera is capped at 259 km/h, the 730d at 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (5.79 kg/hp vs 6.56 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 9.21 seconds. The 0.13 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
Swap one of the two models to explore an equivalent duel in the same segment.
