The start: 0 to 100 km/h

Off the line, the 225xe hits 100 km/h in 6.78 s versus 7.07 s for the Q7 SUV. The instant torque of 385 Nm from the electric motor makes the difference. Despite the faster sprint time, the Q7 SUV is 9 m further along the track at this moment: stronger low-speed acceleration offsets a slower run beyond 100 km/h.

From 100 km/h to 400 metres

At 200 metres, the Q7 SUV is doing 117 km/h against 124 km/h for the 225xe. The gap is 0.17 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.

At 400 metres standing start, the 225xe crosses the line in 14.96 s versus 15.11 s. The 0.15 s gap represents roughly 6 m of track - barely a car length.

Beyond 400 metres: top speed comes into play

Past 400 metres, the 225xe continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 172 km/h versus 162 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the 225xe finishes in 27.15 s versus 28.09 s, with a 0.94 s lead. Despite a higher top speed (226 km/h), the Q7 SUV never recovers its launch deficit.

What the numbers don’t tell you

Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the Q7 SUV is capped at 226 km/h, the 225xe at 202 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.

Instant electric torque gives an advantage off the line. The higher top speed of the combustion engine gives an advantage over longer distances. The distance at which one catches the other depends on the top speed differential.

In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 11.95 seconds. The 0.29 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
