Off the line, the X1 sDrive20i hits 100 km/h in 7.52 s versus 7.80 s for the X1 sDrive20d. At this point, the X1 sDrive20i leads by 0.28 s and sits roughly 6 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the X1 sDrive20i is doing 121 km/h against 119 km/h for the X1 sDrive20d. The gap is 0.23 s. The gap remains stable from the start.
At 400 metres standing start, the X1 sDrive20i crosses the line in 15.51 s versus 15.77 s. The 0.26 s gap represents roughly 11 m of track - two to three car lengths.
Past 400 metres, the X1 sDrive20i continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 167 km/h versus 166 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the X1 sDrive20i finishes in 28.07 s versus 28.46 s, with a 0.39 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (226 vs 222 km/h), preventing any comeback.
Both rivals are electronically governed, but not at the same level: the X1 sDrive20i is capped at 226 km/h, the X1 sDrive20d at 222 km/h. This isn’t a physical engine limit - it’s a manufacturer choice, usually for tyre safety or homologation reasons. Neither car reaches its true aerodynamic top speed.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (7.73 kg/hp vs 8.11 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 12.14 seconds. The 0.28 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
