Off the line, the X5 M Competition hits 100 km/h in 3.83 s versus 4.13 s for the X3 M Competition. At this point, the X5 M Competition leads by 0.30 s and sits roughly 2 m ahead.
At 200 metres, the X5 M Competition is doing 155 km/h against 151 km/h for the X3 M Competition. The gap is 0.18 s. The challenger starts to claw back ground.
At 400 metres standing start, the X5 M Competition crosses the line in 11.94 s versus 12.22 s. The 0.28 s gap represents roughly 15 m of track - two to three car lengths.
Past 400 metres, the X5 M Competition continues to build its lead. At 600 metres, it runs at 215 km/h versus 207 km/h. At 1,000 metres, the X5 M Competition finishes in 21.80 s versus 22.37 s, with a 0.57 s lead. Both vehicles have similar top speeds (250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) vs 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h), preventing any comeback.
Both rivals share the same electronic speed cap: the X5 M Competition and the X3 M Competition are governed to 250 (i.e. 155 mph - industry threshold) km/h. At that speed, standard-fit tyres approach their safety threshold - an industrial ceiling common to most electric vehicles in this segment. Neither car shows its true aerodynamic potential in this duel.
With two combustion powertrains, the difference comes down to power-to-weight ratio (3.74 kg/hp vs 3.91 kg/hp) and transmission (Automatic vs Automatic).
In European road use (130 km/h max), both vehicles reach the legal speed limit in under 6.15 seconds. The 0.30 s difference in 0 to 100 km/h is mostly felt in motorway merging and overtaking.
